Selective Guide To Bird-Feeding

Different birds are attracted to different varieties of seeds. By selecting one of The City Farmer’s unique blends you are assured to attract the birds you want. Our blends help to attract the greatest variety of birds. Here we carry many specialty seed blends and single types of seed for the real bird enthusiasts. Many seed blends sold at discount or box stores contain up to 50% grain fillers that make it appear you are getting more. Grain filler doesn’t often get consumed. Mostly gets flick it around, creating a mess below the feeder. Which often attract squirrels and wildlife.

For those actually wanting to feed the squirrels and other wild life we also offer cracked corn, eared corn or shelled corn as well as our critter mix.

Feeding on the Ground

Most ground-feeding birds prefer millet and cracked corn. We recommend The City Farmer Wild Bird Seed with Cracked Corn for feeding birds and other wildlife on the ground directly or on a platform tray. This seed tends to be less messy because of the lack of outer shell of the seed. This seed blend will attract:

Cardinal
Dark-Eyed Junco
Evening Grosbeak
Mourning Dove
House Sparrow
Song Sparrow
White Throated Sparrow
White Crowned Sparrow
Tree Sparrow
Indigo Bunting
Blue Jay

Feeding at Feeders

Most birds that feed at an elevation, prefer a variety of larger seeds including black oil, striped sunflower, safflower and sunflower hearts. We recommend The City Farmer special blend Premium with sunflower, peanuts, milo, and safflower for feeding at an elevated birdfeeder. This seed blend will attract:

Chickadee
Evening Grosbeak

Hummingbird | Oriole Feeders

Hummingbird feeders are traditionally red and are put out in the mid spring to help feed nesting and migrating hummingbirds. The bright color attracts the birds and the nectar in the feeder mimics the flower nectar the birds naturally drink. We carry both red and clear nectars, in powder or liquid forms. Our hummingbird feeders are available in the traditional red color, as well as blue, glass, window feeders, potted plant feeders, and many more.
